How Long Does Minoxidil Shedding Last?

By Rabbi it firmJuly 10, 2022No Comments5 Mins Read

If you are on a hair loss treatment that involves minoxidil, you might be wondering how long it takes for the hair to re-grow after the treatment has ended. You’ll be glad to know that there are a number of methods available to remedy the issue. In this article, we’ll discuss the duration of minoxidil shedding, hair regrowth, and the side effects.

    Side effects of minoxidil

Depending on the concentration of minoxidil in your skin, you may experience shedding hair for 3 to 6 weeks. If you are experiencing significant hair loss, discontinue using minoxidil treatment or opt for a lower concentration. While it can be frustrating to see a clump of hair every time you use a product that contains minoxidil, you can still enjoy the benefits of minoxidil.

However, the shedding is not a sign of a serious underlying health condition, and it’s not always a cause for concern. Using topical minoxidil to treat hair loss is often perfectly tolerable for many people. In some cases, hair loss from minoxidil is mild to moderate, but more severe cases require medical attention. The first step is to consult a medical professional to find out if your hair loss is caused by an underlying health condition.

Minoxidil shedding is used to treat hair loss in both men and women. In some studies, it has shortened the telogen phase, or “resting” phase, of hair growth, from 20 days to one or two days. However, the side effects of minoxidil can include itching, burning, and flaky skin. In rare cases, minoxidil has been associated with hypertrichosis, which is a problem caused by excessive hair growth. Other side effects include dermatitis and hypertrichosis, but these side effects are generally considered part of an allergic reaction and do not affect the length of minoxidil.

    Duration of minoxidil shedding

There is a difference between the duration of minoxidil shedding and “the shed.” While the latter is the normal phase of hair loss that occurs after applying minoxidil, the former is an unexpected spike in hair shedding caused by a sudden rush of blood and oxygen to the follicles. This sudden influx of blood causes weakened hair to fall out, but the replacement hairs are stronger and thicker. The duration of minoxidil shedding is a short-term issue and is generally harmless. However, if this spike in shedding is prolonged, it’s likely that Minoxidil is not working as expected.

In most men, minoxidil shedding begins after the second to eighth week of treatment and ends approximately four to six months after the treatment is stopped. The duration of minoxidil shedding varies depending on the type of minoxidil treatment you’re using. Some men experience shedding for up to a year. However, this is temporary. If you have to wait for the treatment to work, you should be patient. Usually, you’ll see results after about six months of treatment, while others may take up to a year. During this time, you’ll have to continue to visit your dermatologist for follow-ups.

As a rule of thumb, minoxidil treatments work by increasing hair growth. The new hair will push out the old one, which can take three months or more. However, this is an important step in the hair regrowth process and shouldn’t cause alarm. Minoxidil treatments should not be discontinued too early or you will have even worse results. If the shedding phase is prolonged, it’s best to continue using the treatment.

    Hair regrowth after stopping minoxidil

Using minoxidil can cause hair to fall out, but it also acts as a stimulant for the hairs that have fallen out. Because minoxidil acts as an artificial stimulant, it keeps the hair alive until it grows out. Once this cycle is completed, you can stop using minoxidil. If the hairs do not regrow after you stop using minoxidil, you might need to try another therapy.

One study showed that 70 percent of men maintained their results after they stopped using Minoxidil for hair loss. However, that number could change in a larger sample. The results of the study are not conclusive, but they are worth considering when planning your hair loss treatment. The most important thing to do is to maintain patience during the shedding phase. If you discontinue your treatment early, you have already triggered this process.

    Conclusion

Another thing to remember is that the minoxidil helps to extend the growth phase of the hair. This means that when you stop using it, you will experience some shedding. But don’t worry, because new growth will eventually replace the lost hair. In addition to this, you should also continue to apply the minoxidil product on your scalp at least twice a day. It should take approximately four to six months for you to see results. However, some men might need up to a year to see the full effect of the treatment.
